With Kong: Skull Island now in cinemas, big beasties are quite the hot topic at the moment. And now comes an update on Polygon Pictures’ animated Godzilla feature.

Where Big G, affectionately known as the King of the Monsters, is concerned, he was thrust back into the public conscious with Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla. Since then, TOHO’s Shin Godzilla has recently won the Japanese Academy Award for Best Picture, and the sequel to Edwards’ movie will setup for that franchise to collide with Kong in the already-confirmed 2020 Godzilla vs. King Kong.

For the animated effort, Netflix Japan has announced that the upcoming Polygon film will globally stream on Netflix at a to-be-confirmed date this year. Directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, titled simply Godzilla, this movie marks the very first anime adventure for the character and franchise.

As well as landing on Netflix, Godzilla will get a select theatrical run, and the currently-announced cast include Yuuki Kaji, Takahiro Sakurai, Mamoru Miyano, Junichi Suwabe, Kana Hanazawa, and Tomokazu Sugita.
