In some rather awesome news, it’s been announced that an adult-orientated Deadpool animated series is on the way.

Marvel Television and FX Productions are handling this action-comedy show, with a to-be-confirmed 2018 premiere set for its ten-episode first season. Making things even more awesome, though, is the news that Atlanta’s Donald Glover and Stephen Glover will be acting as showrunners on the series. Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will be executive producers on the Marvel front.

On this news, FX’s Nick Grad enthused, “Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta. With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

From the Marvel camp, Jeph Loeb added, “How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”

Deadpool as a character has been around since 1991, although it’s only in more recent years that this iconic comic book figure has seen a huge surge in mainstream popularity, largely, of course, down to last year’s Ryan Reynolds-headlined Deadpool – which itself has a sequel on the way in June 2018 and a threequel to follow at some point.

Expect more on this new animated series as we get it. As for Donald Glover, next up for him is another Marvel adventure when Spider-Man: Homecoming swings to the big screen this July.
