The first trailer for Andor was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, last night. And as a double whammy of a treat, the creators also took a moment to announce that the Disney+ show was being picked up for a second season!

Season one will debut on August 31st with the first two episodes, of a total of twelve episodes.

Andor centres on Diego Luna’s Rogue One character, a Rebellion spy, and begins five years prior to the events of the film – season two will reportedly cover the final four-year gap before Rogue One. Per the official logline, the Andor series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

The series looks like it will lean away from the Jedi/Sith dichotomy and delve deeper into the grassroots mechanics of the Rebellion, with a greater focus on the politics and day-to-day injustices people suffer under the Empire’s rule.

Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgard, Genevieve O’Reilly and Denise Gough also star, with Tony Gilroy as showrunner.
