The Star Wars and Disney+ series Andor has released its first official trailer, ahead of a three-episode premiere on September 21st.

The official synopsis for Andor shares: “The Andor series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.”

Andor will be set mostly five years prior to that fateful mission in Rogue One, although the show will reportedly flashback further, to when Cassian’s childhood home world first falls under the tyrannical control of the Empire. The series looks like it will lean away from the Jedi/Sith war and delve deeper into the grassroots mechanics of the Rebellion, with a greater focus on the politics and day-to-day injustices people suffer under the Empire’s rule. Adria ArjonaStellan SkarsgardGenevieve O’Reilly and Denise Gough also star, with Tony Gilroy as showrunner.

In a tell-all interview with Vanity Fair, Gilroy shared his thoughts on Diego Luna’s character: “This guy gave his life for the galaxy, right? I mean, he consciously, soberly, without vanity or recognition, sacrificed himself. Who does that? That’s what this first season is about. It’s about him being really revolution-averse and cynical, and lost, and kind of a mess… His adopted home will become the base of our whole first season, and we watch that place become radicalized. Then we see another planet that’s completely taken apart in a colonial kind of way. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They’re wiping out anybody who’s in their way.”
