Despite recent rumour and speculation pointing in the direction of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley, it’s now been revealed that Alicia Vikander will be headlining the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that the Oscar-winning The Danish Girl actress, who also wowed in Ex_Machina, has signed on to play Lara Croft in the relaunch. Nothing else is known about the film at this stage bar the fact that The Wave’s Roar Uthaug will be directing from a script by Transformers 5’s Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Like we mentioned, it appeared that this redo was to star The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley, with the actress herself even confirming that she’d had talks for the gig. Clearly those talks weren’t successful, and now we have someone else taking on the Lara Croft mantle.

A relaunch of the cinematic Tomb Raider has been in development for a fair few years now, and things are finally beginning to move forward in a solid manner, particularly with Vikander now on board to take on the role played by Angelina Jolie in 2001’s Tomb Raider and 2003’s Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
