Hot on the heels of directing Crawl – which UK audiences won’t actually see until next month – Alexandre Aja has signed up for his next project.

Via Bloody Disgusting, Aja will be directing an adaptation of Junji Ito’s Tomie manga series for Sony Pictures, Universal Content Productions, and Quibi. Quibi, of course, is the new mobile-first platform designed for on-the-go viewing.

Aja will be acting as executive producer and director on Tomie, with Aquaman’s Davie Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick writing and joining Aja on the exec producer duties.

Released in 1987, Tomie centres on a missing young girl whose body parts begin to turn up in various places across a small town. Previously, Ito’s work has been adapted for film and TV in Japan.

Expect more on Tomie as we get it.
