With Alden Ehrenreich now officially confirmed to be playing the young Han Solo in Disney and Lucasfilm’s upcoming Solo-centric “Star Wars Story” movie, it looks as if Ehrenreich’s time as everyone’s favourite scruffy looking nerf herder is more than a simple one-and-done affair.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Hail, Caesar! actor has signed a three-movie deal to play Han Solo, with the plan to have further Han outings should the first film do well at the box office (which, let’s face it, is pretty much a guarantee). This scoop reportedly comes from one of the outlet’s insider sources close to all things Star Wars, who said, “There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves the storylines open with the opportunity to really given fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.”

First and foremost for Ehrenreich’s Han is the Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan-penned movie that will be directed by The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Also featuring The Force Awakens’ Joonas Suotamo back as Chewbacca, the film will tell the story of how Solo became the loveable scoundrel who we were first introduced to at Mos Eisley back in 1977.

The still-untitled movie is currently set for a May 25th, 2018 release. Before that, of course, Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in cinemas this December, before Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII is released next year.
