In some sad news, it’s being reported that Alan Rickman has died at the age of 69. The details are sketchy at the moment, but the actor had been suffering from cancer according to his family. His agent has confirmed the news of his passing. He would’ve turned 70 next month.

Rickman is regarded as one of Great Britain’s finest ever actors, and this news comes as a shock that will hit many hard. His death, of course, follows the recent passing of David Bowie also at 69 years of age after a battle with cancer.

In a film, TV and stage career spanning five decades, Rickman is likely best known for his turns in the likes of Die Hard, the Harry Potter series, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Truly Madly Deeply, Dogma, Galaxy Quest and Love Actually. The man was a true giant of British acting, and his death is a great loss to all who were fans of his work, drew inspiration from his work, or were lucky enough to work alongside this most talented of actors.

His last film will be Alice Through the Looking Glass, released this May, in which he has already provided the vocals for the role of Blue Caterpillar.

The thoughts of all here at STARBURST go out to the family, friends and fans of Alan Rickman.
