Mark this one down as the most random news story of the day, but it’s being reported that Ade Edmondson has landed a role in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The story comes courtesy of The Sun (meaning, y’know, take it with a huge pinch of salt), and it’s believed that the Bottom and The Young Ones actor has nabbed himself a mystery role in the follow-up to The Force Awakens.

On this news, an apparent source said, “Ade is one of the most-loved comedy stars in the UK, but even he would admit Star Wars is a surprise move for him. While J.J. Abrams isn’t directing, he is still heavily involved and he is really keen on British talent. Ade is starting to go back to his acting roots after doing a lot of reality TV recently, and this is a huge deal for him. His character is top secret, like everything else to do with the film and its plot. But given his old comedy characters, it would make sense for them to give him an eccentric part.”

A spokeswoman for Edmonson has reportedly declined to comment on all of this.

As ever, expect more on this story as and when it develops.

At present, Star Wars: Episode VIII is set for a December 15h, 2017 release.
