Here at Moonbase Alpha, we’re huge fans of Mark Millar and his Millarworld properties. As such, we’re mightily excited by the vast amount of his work that is being lined up for big screen adaptations. One such adaptation is Superior, and this morning brings some news on that project.

Variety is reporting that Brandon and Phillip Murphy have been brought in to pen the screenplay for the cinematic Superior. The pair are best known for their much-praised Black List script for The Bringing. 20th Century Fox will be producing the film, will Matthew Vaughn and Tarquin Pack on board in a producing capacity along with Millar.

The plot of Superior, which was a seven-issue series released in 2010 from Millar and Leinil Yu, focusses on Simon, a 12-year-old suffering from multiple sclerosis. When offered the chance to become his favourite superhero, Superior, he jumps at the chance before realising that this is all part of a nefarious plan from the no-good demon Ormon.

In terms of Millarworld properties, Superior is the latest of the Millar-created works to be given a feature film adaptation. We’ve already been given Wanted, Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2 and last year’s stunning Kingsman: The Secret Service. Then there’s other adaptations currently in development with Fox, such as Starlight, Nemesis, Kindergarten Heroes, American Jesus, Supercrooks, Jupiter’s Legacy, Huck and a Kingsman sequel. In addition to this, last year’s Fantastic Four was loosely based on Millar’s Ultimate Fantastic Four run, this year’s Captain America: Civil War will pull inspiration from Millar’s legendary Civil War book, and then there’s those rumblings that Fox’s third Wolverine movie will be heavily influenced by Millar’s beloved Old Man Logan arc.

When we spoke to Millar towards the end of last year, he revealed that the current plan is for Superior to start shooting in the summer, so the addition of Brandon and Phillip Murphy suggests that things are moving forward nicely.

Expect more on Superior as it develops.
