Warner Bros. has found a director for its live action-film adaptation of supernatural manga DEATH NOTE. Cult indie director Adam Wingard (GUEST; YOU’RE NEXT) has signed on to helm an English language adaption of the franchise, which has already enjoyed a popular anime, two Japanese live-action features and, more recently, a musical.

The most recent script has been penned by the FANTASTIC FOUR redo’s Jeremy Slater. Doug Davison and Brian Witten are executive producing, with Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka producing.

Given Wingard’s impressive credentials, there’s a lot he can do with the source material, but with a new live-action series on the way, it all seems a bit superfluous.

As ever, expect more on this as we hear it.
