With Dave Bautista winning fans over as Guardians of the Galaxy’s Drax last year, another wrestler-turned-actor has landed themselves a comic book-based role.

The CW has cast Adam Copeland, better known as Edge to wrestling fans, as Atom-Smasher in The Flash. Copeland, who as become a regular on the Haven TV show, will make his debut in the first episode of the Scarlet Speedster-centric show’s second season.

In terms of how Atom-Smasher will be portrayed in The Flash, The CW has officially described the character as “One of the most powerful enemies we encounter this season, Atom-Smasher has come to Central City to kill The Flash. His incredible strength and ability to grow to enormous size makes him more than a match for Flash, and the entire S.T.A.R. Labs team will have to come together to find a way to defeat him.”

Comic book-wise, the character of Atom-Smasher is usually portrayed as a good guy. That said, during Geoff Johns’ time on the JSA title, he did have the character turn to the dark side after his mother was killed.

What’s also interesting is that Al Rothstein, the alter-ego of Atom-Smasher, was namechecked in Season 1 of The Flash as being somebody who passed away during the particle accelerator accident. Given how this upcoming season is confirmed to be pulling characters from the Earth-2 timeline, it could very well be that we get to see an alternate take on Rothstein.

The Flash returns to US screens on October 6th, with a UK return expected to follow shortly after.
