Following last year’s sell-out 10th anniversary celebrations, Abertoir, Wales’ International Horror Festival returns this year for another mix of brand new and classic films, as well as live music, live theatre, talks, Q&As, a pub quiz and a warm Welsh welcome! While the final line-up is still being worked on, the Abertoir team has already announced a whole host of guests, special events, and classic films to be featured.

Returning to the festival for the third time is renowned composer Fabio Frizzi, who will, with his band, perform The Beyond: The Composer’s Cut, to celebrate the memory of horror master Lucio Fulci, who died 20 years ago. Another very special guest who will attend the festival is actress Lynn Lowry, who’ll be on hand to discuss her enduring career in cult horror films.

The main theme of the festival this year is a celebration of all things 42nd Street sleaze, including screenings of Fulci’s New York Ripper and I Drink Your Blood – featuring the uncredited début of Lynn Lowry – and there’ll also be talks and gimmicks galore! Additionally, it’s been announced that the festival’s opening film will be British comedy classic Carry on Screaming, marking 50 years since the film’s release.

As well as the main event in November, Abertoir also collaborates with Cardiff’s Chapter Arts Centre on a Halloween event, and this year the two Welsh premieres it will host at that event will also feature at the main festival: Liam Gavin’s intense supernatural drama A Dark Song, and Anna Biller’s phenomenal The Love Witch, which we reviewed here.

Many more of the treats in store can be found on Abertoir’s website, and there are many more still to be announced, including more special guests and premieres. The best way to keep up-to-date with the festival is by checking out their Facebook and Twitter pages.

The festival takes place from November 15th to 20th at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and full festival passes are on sale now for £69, granting access to every single event over the six days. Individual tickets for The Beyond: The Composer’s Cut are also on sale, while other individual tickets will go sale nearer the time.
