Oxford-based genre publishers Abaddon are to release the three new novellas produced by authors who sent in stories via Abaddon’s Open Submissions month, which saw hundreds of people send their work into Abaddon.

Abaddon are part of Rebellion Publishing, who are best known for 2000AD, and they largely specialise in creating new worlds and inviting multiple authors to write books in the same setting.  Two of the new novellas are set in established worlds, whilst the third takes place in an entirely shared universe.

The new novellas are Rupert Wong: Cannibal Chef by Cassandra Khaw, which is set in the urban fantasy-inspired Gods and Monsters world, and The Lazarus Conundrum by Paul Starkey, which will join the popular zombie-fest Tomes of The Dead series. Colin Sinclair has written Midnight in the Garden Centre of Good and Evil, which launches the Invaders from Beyond franchise and its comically dark science fiction setting.

Commissioning editor David Thomas Moore said, “The response was terrific, and the quality of submissions was even higher than in 2012. Sorting through them was a challenging task, and rejecting some of the proposals was heart-breaking; after one round of cuts, the first “short list” consisted of fully two thirds of the initial submissions! Eventually, I came up with three winners: two fantastic additions to our older series and a new series rich with potential.”
