It’s almost time for horror Christmas as hundreds of fans descend on London’s Leicester Square for the annual treat that is Tubi FrightFest. With over 80 films being shown, it’s a hard choice picking what to watch, so we’ve compiled our ten movies that you shouldn’t miss…
RUBBERHEAD: THE LIFE AND MONSTERS OF STEVE JOHNSON
A brutally honest documentary looking at the creature SFX effects legend who has created some of the best effects in horror and fantasy films of the past 40+ years, such as Ghostbusters, Predator, Species 2, and Bicentennial Man. With input from the industry’s finest as well as Steve himself, it’s a very human story of an incredibly talented man.
Screens on Friday 28th at 3.45pm and Sunday 30th at 8.45pm in Discovery 4.
FACES OF DEATH
Taking the legendary video nasty as its inspiration, this is a brutal but entertaining serial killer film takes a meta approach as a content moderator has concerns that a creator is actually murdering people using methods displayed in the 1978 mondo classic.

DEAD RESET
Director Stewart Sparke returns to FrightFest with the follow-up to his crowd-pleasing How to Kill Monsters. This time-loop sci-fi splatter-fest boasts fantastic sets and plenty of practical gore, as well as FrightFest regular Johnny Vivash in an eye-popping cameo!

ITHAQUA
Casey Walker becomes the first director to have two films in one year, as this one and Home Bodies grace the screens. Presented by Hammer Films, this chilling survivalist horror takes place in a remote 1800s Canadian outpost. As food and resources dwindle, a mercenary is forced to head to a local village for help, but discover something horrific.

GHOST IN THE CELL
This Indonesian film is set in a high-security prison where a series of gruesome murders cause the inmates to take matters in their own hands. Both incredibly gory and hilarious, this is the perfect late-night treat.

THE DEATH OF US
Actor Annabella Rich (Eating Miss Campbell) directs herself in this hauntingly tragic tale of a couple who are struggling with the brutal loss of their child. Moving to a new house and town doesn’t shake the nightmarish visions and fear, however. A powerful and compelling directorial debut.

THE BROOK
Another entry under the First Blood banner, this is an impressive debut from Paul Stainthorpe. A small village with a mythical puma that watches over the good citizens suffers a spate of murders. A teenager who finds his grandfather’s old video camera (which lets the viewer see one hour into the past) may hold the answers. A surprisingly effective debut with a strong young cast.

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF BECKY
Lulu Wilson is back in this third bombastic entry into the hit series. Becky has now been hired by the CIA as a field agent working undercover to smash far-right extremists – her own way. When she’s tasked with casing out a family (led by the brilliant Neil Patrick Harris) who intend to spark a Fourth Reich, you can expect plenty of punch-ups and lots of blood. Unmissable fun.

SPIDER ISLAND
Not one for the arachnaphobes, the latest from Christopher Smith (Creep) mixes chills with comedy as a group of social media ‘influencers’ are given a free holiday on an exclusive island to promote it to the world. The manager (Andy Nyman) doesn’t count on the invasion of deadly poisonous spiders spoiling the fun, though. Black Adder’s Tim McInnerny also stars.

Full Moon Rising: The Charles Band Story
The latest documentary by Sarah Appleton (The Found Footage Phenomenon) shines a light on independent filmmaking legend Charles Band. Covering his entire career, it’s an eye-opening journey through the ups and downs of his filmmaking life.
