channel picks

June is here and we’re promised a bout of nice weather, but we still love sitting in front of the box with the great films and TV shows on Horror Channel each week. Here are some of our picks for the next seven days:

Wednesday June 2nd, 10.55pm – Urban Legend (1998)

The first – and best – of the slasher trilogy in which a university campus becomes a stalking ground for a killer who uses urban legends as a modus operandi. Robert Englund, John Neville, and Brad Dourif appear alongside a young Jared Leto, Alicia Witt, and Tara Reid.

Thursday June 3rd, 1pm – Ice Sharks (2016)

Yeah, we know… we’re suckers for The Asylum. This time, sharks invade the frozen waters of the Antarctic, and why not? There’s a neat in-joke reference to John Carpenter’s The Thing as the crew of the base are named after the characters of that film if the CGI sharks don’t entertain you.

Friday June 4th, 9pm – Can’t Come Out to Play (2013)

Directed by John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) and starring Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead) as an overbearing mother who stops her sick son having any visitors. It’s a return to form for the director and it has a very dark and twisted atmosphere.

Saturday June 5th, 9pm – Child’s Play 2 (1990)

Chucky’s back and up to his old slashing tricks again. Alex Vincent returns as Andy, and his foster mother is played by the ever-wonderful Jenny Agutter. As always, though, it’s Brad Dourif as the voice of the demented doll that is the standout. Child’s Play 3 follows at 10.40pm to make for a great Saturday night double bill.

Sunday June 6th, 10.55pm – Re-Animator (1985)

The hugely popular Stuart Gordon film that was inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft story made stars of Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton and was a massive hit on video. Combs plays Herbert West, who invents a solution that can bring dead bodies back to life. If you haven’t seen it before, expect lots of gore and a twisted sense of humour. For everyone else, it’s an unmissable treat.

Tune into Horror Channel on Sky 317, Virgin 149, Freeview 68, Freesat 138.
