The last we’d heard about anything related to The Matrix was a couple of years ago when rumblings of a reboot reared their head. But now, well now comes word that the Wachowskis are developing a new Matrix movie.

Courtesy of an interview with Yahoo, the John Wick franchise’s Chad Stahelski has seemingly revealed that the Matrix picture that is in development is actually a film that will exist within the same realm as the existing Matrix trilogy rather than being a reboot.

Speaking to the outlet, Stahelski – who worked as a stunt double and martial arts coordinator on said Matrix trilogy – enthused, “I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a Matrix, but they’re expanding what we all loved. And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’ and I would probably go and get hit by a car. If they wanted help, I would absolutely put down whatever I was doing to help them.”

Stahelski did also mention that he doesn’t seem to think Lana Wachowski will be directing this time out, although Chad did confirm Lana will still be involved along with Lilly Wachowski.

Of course, this is all still very vague and could play out a whole number of ways, but knowing that the Wachowskis are involved in a Matrix movie that will somehow be involved within the existing Matrix canon? Man, that’s a good day.
