Manchester folk – don’t miss your chance to join in the Search for Weng Weng as HOME, the fabulous centre for contemporary theatre, art, music, film and more, welcomes author and filmmaker Andrew Leavold to talk about his documentary and new book on the diminutive star of Filipino cinema on Monday, August 7th.

The documentary (reviewed here) took the former video store owner on a journey across the world to find out more about the infamous star of such cult movies as For Y’ur Height Only. At only two-foot-nine, Weng Weng was an unlikely James Bond-type hero, but that’s exactly what he was in this hilarious and celebrated piece of world cinema.

Andrew’s documentary covers Weng Weng’s history by interviewing people who knew him and even finding members of his family. His story is a tragic one, but the film is highly entertaining and the filmmaker a brilliant storyteller. His new book based on the documentary will be available to purchase and have signed!

It’s a night not to be missed and tickets (priced only £5!) are available now from the HOME website.
