When Kevin Smith first announced that his next movie, TUSK, would be based on a bizarre true story that involved a lonely man seeking a tenant willing to dress up as a walrus for 2 hours a day (in exchange for free rent), their was a collective cry of “what the fuuuuuck?” Firstly because “didn’t Smith say he was retiring?”, then “wait, what happened to CLERKS III?!”, and finally “hang on a minute, what did you say the movie was about again?!?”

It’s based on this story, if you’d like to learn more about the creepy basis for the movie, which Smith describes as a horror film.

Despite Quentin Tarantino being sought to star alongside Michael Parks (who would play the walrus-bothering weirdo), it seems the acclaimed filmmaker turned it down, leaving the door open for Smith’s DIE HARD 4.0 co-star Justin Long, who has now signed on. Explaining the film and latest casting addition to Entertainment Weekly, Smith said:

“I wrote the script around , so it’s nothing but Michael Parks dialogue porn. Justin Long is the guy in the walrus suit. I needed a guy who has expressive eyes because once you’re in that suit, you’re covered. I reached out to Justin and he wrote back and was like, ‘This is awfully scary but how can we not? Let’s fall down this hole.’ So it’ll be Parks versus Long trying to answer the age-old question, ‘Is man indeed a walrus at heart?’ It’s a fucked up movie, dude.”

Here’s hoping!

The $2m budgeted TUSK begins shooting October 21st for a 2014 release. And for those worrying about CLERKS III, it should follow straight after.
