Acclaimed horror novel THOSE ACROSS THE RIVER is set to be adapted for the big-screen after the rights to Christopher Buehlman’s debut were recently snapped up by producer Mike Medavoy (BLACK SWAN).

Tod Williams, director of the underrated, yet monstrously successful PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 has been chosen to helm.

Here’s the official synopsis to bring us up to speed…

Failed academic Frank Nichols and his wife, Eudora, have arrived in the sleepy Georgia town of Whitbrow, where Frank hopes to write a history of his family’s old estate-the Savoyard Plantation- and the horrors that occurred there. At first, the quaint, rural ways of their new neighbors seem to be everything they wanted. But there is an unspoken dread that the townsfolk have lived with for generations. A presence that demands sacrifice.

It comes from the shadowy woods across the river, where the ruins of Savoyard still stand. Where a longstanding debt of blood has never been forgotten.

A debt that has been waiting patiently for Frank Nichols’s homecoming…

Ok, so admittedly we haven’t had time to catch up on this one yet, but it definitely sounds like the perfect antidote to the slew of either torture-centric or found footage genre movies we’ve been bombarded with of late. No offence to Mr. Williams. We’ll have more on this as it develops…
