30th Anniversary BACK TO THE FUTURE Showing to Feature Live Orchestra

You will have doubtless already been endlessly reminded that 2015 is the year of BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II, promising flying cars, hoverboards, self-adjusting clothing, and another 15 JAWS sequels. However, arguably even more significant it that is also the 30th anniversary of the first film’s release, the UK premiere of which took place during 1985’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.

To commemorate such a momentous milestone, this year’s EIFF will see a screening of BACK TO THE FUTURE accompanied by a live performance of the film’s score by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. In addition, the score’s original composer Alan Silvestri is preparing an additional 15 minutes of music to expand the presentation.

Mark Adams, Artistic Director of the EIFF commented, “This live event will delight and enthral in equal measure. As well as being a major event in its own right, this also marks the beginning of a new set of relationships with Scotland’s National Performing Companies, where we are placing film within the context of other artforms.”

RSNO Acting Chief Executive Kenneth Osborne added, “To be involved in the 30th anniversary celebrations of this iconic film is quite an honour. BACK TO THE FUTURE is a modern classic, and Alan Silvestri’s dramatic score will be a joy for our orchestra to play. There’s a delightful symmetry to the event also, as we and the audience, in 2015, enjoy a movie about a young man in 1985 travelling back in time to 1955. It promises to be a very special night.”

The screening will take place on Saturday June 27th at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh. Tickets for the event will be on sale from 10am tomorrow, and can be bought from the Festival Theatre Box Office on 0131 5296000 or via their website.
