Danny Boyle is back in the director’s chair for the long-anticipated sequel 28 Years Later, a new instalment in his 28 Days Later horror franchise intended to launch a brand new trilogy of films for Sony. The studio has just released the official poster, which you can see below.

Reportedly, the first duo of movies in this new trilogy have already been filmed, with Boyle directing the first and Candyman’s Nia DaCosta directing the second. The film’s cast includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Ralph Fiennes.

Fiennes recently teased the plot in an interview, saying: “Britain is 28 years into this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid humans with a few pockets of uninfected communities. And it centres on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected. But he finds a doctor who is a man we might thing is going to be weird and odd, but actually is a force for good.”

Alex Garland returns to write the screenplay. Cillian Murphy, who starred in the first film at the beginning of his career, is executive producing and may even return to star, according to some reports.

28 Years Later will be released in cinemas on June 20th, 2025.
