After years of waiting, it appears that 28 Months Later could finally be happening.

Following on from 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, writer Alex Garland has revealed that he has an idea in mind for a third film, with it believed that producer Andrew Macdonald is looking to turn the idea into a third movie.

Speaking to The Playlist, Garland revealed, “About two years ago, Danny started collaborating on the potential to make Trainspotting 2, another sequel. In that conversation, an idea for 28 Months arrived. I had a funny idea. I had a sort of weird idea that popped into my head. Partly because of a trip I’d taken. I had this thought, and I suggested it to Andrew and Danny, but I also said I don’t want to work on it. I don’t really want to play a role, and Andrew said, ‘Leave it to me.’ So he’s gone off and is working on it.”

So whilst Alex Garland won’t be directly on board with 28 Months Later, it does look that the film may eventually come to be. The first film arrived in 2002, with 28 Weeks Later following in 2007.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
