With our zombie special currently on sale (be sure to pick up your copy here), now comes some nicely timed news on that long-discussed WALKING DEAD companion series. The project was first announced last year, with it being a completely different story with completely different characters in a completely different location to Rick Grimes et al. And now finally comes some word, courtesy of TV Line, on the main characters that we’ll be seeing in the show.

The official rundown of the main players in his upcoming show are described as below:

Sean Cabrera: A Latino male in his early 40s, Sean is a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.

Cody Cabrera: Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town.

Nancy Tompkins: A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.

Nick Tompkins: Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay home, too scared to flee.

Ashley Tompkins: Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge.

Andrea Chapman: A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea – yep, another Andrea! – has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.

The above characters will all be completely new to the WALKING DEAD world, with the show looking to carve its own path away from the comics and AMC’s hugely successful show. In terms of the above, the names may just be placeholders for now, although the descriptions will obviously still be accurate. It’s rumoured that this upcoming series will act as a prequel of sorts, centring on the early days of the zombie outbreak before it affected Andrew Lincoln’s Rick and company.

The pilot for this companion series is looking to go into production later this year, with the initial episode expected to arrive next year. Elsewhere, THE WALKING DEAD returns with its fifth season on AMC on October 12th.
