Rila Fukushima Takes Over as ARROW's Katana

TV News

In some recasting news, Deadline is reporting that ARROW has brought in THE WOLVERINE’s Rila Fukushima to replace Devon Aoki as Tatsu Yamashiro, aka Katana. A scheduling conflict is the official reason given for Aoki's departure. Katana will debut during the upcoming Season 3 of the Emerald Archer-centric show.

The Katana alias is a name given to Yamashiro for the impressively-badass sword that she wields. Said sword just so happens to contain the soul of everyone who she’s killed, at one stage including husband Maseo, who will be played by Karl June in the show. Whether the whole ‘souls in sword’ stuff will be brought to ARROW, we’ll have to wait and see.

It’s already been reported that Katana will play a major part during Oliver Queen’s time in Hong Kong, after the conclusion of Season 2 saw Ollie finally get off ‘the island.’ In the comic book world, Katana often has ties to the Birds of Prey team. Given how Huntress and Canary have appeared in ARROW, some have speculated that a team-up could be on the cards at some point.

ARROW returns to The CW on 8th October, with a UK return to follow a few weeks after that. In the meantime, be sure to pick up the current issue of Starburst for our Season 3 preview of the show.
