NBC’s lavish and imaginative ‘reimagining’ of the legend of Dracula has been axed after just one ten-episode series. The show, which starred Jonathan Rhys Myers as the iconic vampire, saw Dracula arriving in Victorian London and posing as an American philanthropist dedicated to bringing a revolutionary new form of electrical power to the city whilst secretly planning to take revenge on the descendants of those who ruined his life centuries earlier. The series was created by Cole Haddon and executive producer by Daniel (Carnivale) Knaupf and was filmed in Hungary and produced by the UK’s Carnival Films. Its cast included Jessica De Gouw as Mina, a reincarnation of Drac’s long-dead wife Ilona, Victoria Smurfit as vampire hunter Lady Wetherby, Oliver Jackson-Cohen as journalist Jonathan Harker, Nonso Anozie as Drac’s faithful manservant Renfield, Katie (Merlin, Jurassic World) McGrath as Mina’s friend Lucy alongside British actors Ben Miles, Robert Bathurst and Jemma (Doctor Who) Redgrave. The series debuted on NBC last October with 5.26 million viewers, dropping to a low with episode eight’s 2.47 million. The series, which aired on Sky Living in the UK (transmitting just days after US broadcast) ended by setting up a potential second season with Dracula’s former associate Van Helsing enlisting the help of Jonathan Harker in hunting down and destroying the escaped vampire. Dracula was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK in January.

CBS have also pulled the plug on Intelligence, the hi-tech cyber-age action/thriller series starring Josh (Lost) Holloway. The series launched as a mid-season replacement in January and its debut episode scored an impressive 16.5 million viewers, over 10 million of whom didn’t show up for the second a few days later. Figures dipped to just under 5 million for the show’s penultimate episode at the end of March. Intelligence airs on Sky One in the UK.

Intelligence was Ok at the beginning - just took itself too seriously. Then halfway through it introduced a will they/ won't they romance and then it became cheesy
