With Matt Ryan recently cast in the titular role in NBC’s CONSTANTINE, Bleeding Cool is now reporting that Papa Midnite is being lined up as a recurring villain if the pilot gets picked up for a full season.

Now, at present, it’s believed that it would take a truly abysmal showing from the pilot for the show not to be picked up by the network. Whilst the pilot will focus on the origins of John Constantine, Midnite is being eyed as a regular threat for the show moving forward. It’s also been confirmed that long-time HELLBLAZER location Ravenscar Psychiatric Hospital will be used in the series.

Created by Jamie Delano and John Ridgway, voodoo-empowered necromancer Papa Midnite debuted back in HELLBLAZER #1. He was also seen in the Keanu Reeves-starring 2005 CONSTANTINE movie, played by Djimon Hounsou.

NBC’s CONSTANTINE pilot is being written by David Goyer and Daniel Cerrone, to be directed by Neil Marshall. Production is expected to start on the pilot shortly, with it looking to air towards the middle of the year.
