TV News: NBC's CONSTANTINE Has Found Its Lead

TV News

With NBC currently development their CONSTANTINE pilot, one major thing was missing: the chain-smoking John Constantine himself. Fear not, HELLBLAZER fans, for Deadline is now reporting that Matt Ryan has been cast in the titular role. The Welsh actor is best known for his work on CRIMINAL MINDS: SUSPECT BEHAVIOUR.

Very little official details are known on the plot of show, but a brief synopsis has leaked out for the pilot: “When the daughter of a late friend is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her.” So, the standard John Constantine stuff then. One thing that has been a constant since news of the show broke is that this series will pull its inspiration from the ‘New 52’ version of character, meaning a younger take on the antihero.

The script for the CONSTANTINE pilot has been written by David Goyer and Daniel Cerone, and will see Neil Marshall take directing duties. It’s expected to hit screens towards the middle of this year.

I always thought (as I'm sure many people did) how awesome it would be if he were played by Sting, seeing as that's who he's visually modelled on.

Pleased to read that Constantine will be played by a Welshman. Sorry America but this is one role you just have to let go. I still play that old game in my head...how many actors can you imagine playing the role of Constantine before you think of can you think of Keanu bloody Reeves!? Here's hoping this new TV show can finally do a GREAT comic character justice on screen.
The pain still runs deep!
