The comic book community has rallied around a campaign to raise the profile of Batman co-creator, Bill Finger. Biographer Marc Tyler Nobleman has been asking comic book fans around the world to contact Google and request that a Google Doodle celebrating the little-known comic book writer appear on February 8th 2014, as that would have been Bill Finger’s 100th Birthday.

The request to lobby Google and give Finger the recognition he deserves is currently trending across social media as fans, creators and journalists alike rally to the cause to remind people of this forgotten writer's brilliant contribution to the field of comics.

Finger was responsible for many of the great ideas that make Batman the iconic character he is today. Though Bob Kane is credited as the genius behind Batman, Finger wrote the scripts and many of the better-known villains (including The Joker), the Batmobile and Commissioner Gordon were all his invention.

Finger died in 1974, and it is one of the many injustices of comic book history that he was never properly acknowledged during his lifetime.  Bob Kane wrote in his autobiography Batman And Me ; “Now that my long-time friend and collaborator is gone, I must admit that Bill never received the fame and recognition he deserved. I often tell my wife, if I could go back fifteen years, before he died, I would like to say ‘I’ll put your name on it now. You deserve it.’
