THE SIMPSONS are marking the retirement of Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki in the next episode, to air on Sunday in the US.

Cultural references have always played a big part in the humour of THE SIMPSONS, be they popular and obvious or unfamiliar and obscure (Marge: “You enjoyed Rashomon.” Homer: “That’s not how I remember it.”)
