Once Upon a Time News

At this joyous time of year it's with a heavy heart that we must bring sad tidings to all you fairy tale fans of Starburst, for Channel 5 has dropped ONCE UPON A TIME after two seasons.

"Channel 5 has not picked up the rights for the next series. At the moment we're not intending to pick up the show," a spokesperson for the channel confirmed.

More than 2 million viewers tuned in when Channel 5 premiered ONCE UPON A TIME back in April 2012, but since then ratings have declined.

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence with imported shows on UK network television. DEXTER was dropped by ITV after its second season, Channel Four has dropped TRUE BLOOD (and I wouldn't be surprised if AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. suffers the same fate, although the fact that it's still repeated on Saturday evenings could be an encouraging sign that it's finding an audience here) ALIAS was abandoned by both channels Four and 5, and there are countless other examples.

The moral for US networks would seem to be don't sell your shows to UK networks, stick with the cable/satellite channels. At least then an entire series has the chance of being broadcast.

Typical of them. They let you get used to a good TV show then disappoint. It isn't always UK networks though - SKY Living dropped Teen Wolf after two seasons. I'll have to import that on DVD too!
