We may not stop talking about STAR WARS but JJ Abrams is a busy man – his other upcoming sci-fi project is ALMOST HUMAN, a cops-meet-robots procedural coming soon to Fox. A new poster has been released, and Abrams has been talking at Bad Robot headquarters about his vision for the series.

ALMOST HUMAN, set 35 years in the future, follows Karl Urban’s robot-hating Detective John Kennex and his unwanted, you guessed it, robot partner Dorian (Michael Ealy) as they solve crimes and their relationship develops. Lily Taylor, Mackenzie Crook, Michael Irby and Minka Kelly also star.

Abrams described ALMOST HUMAN as a cop show that you might feel is familiar with a wrench thrown into that, with the huge adjustment being that the cases themselves aren't what you've seen before. The truths of the differences between these characters are atypical because of the world of which it takes place."

The show won’t be much alike to his previous series Fringe, he said:  "It feels very distinct from the world of Fringe, which was a much more serialized show about this dysfunctional father-son, this romance that went over not just years but worlds. This is a show that doesn't quite get into that level of serialized storytelling."

He went on to compare ALMOST HUMAN to other sci-fi works: "I think this is a show that if you are a fan of sci-fi, if you're a fan of Blade Runner, if you're a fan of [Isaac] Asimov or [Ray] Bradbury, you'll see this and you'll go, 'This feels like this is something in that universe,' but the truth is the show is being made for people who go, 'I want to see a great procedural. I want to see a great crime drama, great characters in a very unique situations.' That's the thrust of what we're trying to do here."

ALMOST HUMAN will air on Fox in the US sometime this autumn (or Fall, if you insist), with a UK broadcaster to be announced. Have a look at the new poster below.
