TV News: Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D Secures a UK Broadcaster?

TV News

Now before you get overly excited I just want to make it clear that this news is totally unofficial, utterly unsubstantiated, and completely unconfirmed, but we've heard from a source that Channel 5 have procured the UK broadcast and catch-up on demand rights to Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., which will be broadcast by ABC in the States.

Channel 5 already broadcast ABC made shows such as the fairy tale (FABLES rip off?) inspired ONCE UPON A TIME, and the comedy-drama CASTLE, and Channel 5 won a major coup just a couple of years ago when it beat off the competition for the UK rights to FLASHFORWARD, which was also an ABC show.

So with SKY heavily cutting back on showing imported shows to concentrate on home grown programmes, it is entirely plausible that Channel 5 could be the UK home for Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Since its beginnings Channel 5 has long championed genre programming with the likes of HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS, XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS, LEXX, and POLTERGEIST: THE LEGACY. In recent years it’s added PERSON OF INTEREST, THE WALKING DEAD, ARCHER, and (OK they’re not Starburst territory but they’re still great shows) BURN NOTICE, SONS OF ANARCHY and JUSTIFIED to its roster.

Say what you will about Channel 5 but I think it could be the perfect fit for AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., providing that the rumour is true of course. And that’s all it is at this moment in time… a rumour. Expect confirmation very soon.
