TV’s most lovable psychopath may be heading for a killer conclusion, with the eighth and final season of DEXTER currently broadcasting, but the big boss of Showtime has addressed rumours of a spin-off.

Network President David Nevins, when asked at the Television Critics Association previews whether such a series was being considered, said:

"Of course. We announced a deal with [showrunner] Scott Buck today. Draw your own conclusions."

He then clarified that no spin-off is currently being formally planned and no cast members have signed on to extend the lives of their characters, but:

"We have a deal with Scott and we're going to develop a bunch of different things with him. All options will be explored. We're really not dealing with it at all until we're through this season and maybe for a while thereafter. It's all about the satisfying ending to the show. There's always things that can be done [after]. I think [Dexter] ends with great satisfaction. I haven't seen it yet, but I have read it and I think it's quite brilliantly built."

The name most often brought up as a possible lead for any spin-off is Dexter’s sister Debra, as played by Jennifer Carpenter, though other fans think that none of the supporting characters are as interesting as Dexter himself and so any spin-off couldn’t keep up the same quality. Do you want to see more of the murderous Miami, or are you just excited to see how it all turns out for Dex and no more? Let us know in the comments.

I can see a spin-off with Angel, Flynn and Vince Masuka working well...Angel and Flynn as two private eyes and Vince as their in-house forensics guy.

It could only be Debra really. Call it 'Potty Mouth' or something. I will miss Dexter though.
