It’s been a long-standing rumour, but it’s now been officially confirmed that Cobie Smulders’ Agent Maria Hill will be a part of Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show. Writer/director Joss Whedon confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly. Smulders previously took on the role in Whedon’s AVENGERS ASSEMBLE.

Whedon said, “I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone, she 'is' S.H.I.E.L.D. She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humour that plays so well with Clark’s [Gregg]. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”

In related news, the pilot episode of the show had a surprise screening at San Diego’s Comic-Con yesterday. SuperheroHype reports that the response was phenomenal. Visit the site for their full thoughts on the episode, but be wary of spoilers naturally.

The show is set to premiere on the ABC network on Tuesday, 24th September. No details are yet known as to a UK airing of the show. Here’s hoping that changes soon.
