Terrific news for fans of British genre drama as the BBC announce the recommissioning of Dominic Mitchell’s bold and challenging post-zombie apocalypse drama In The Flesh for a new five or six episode series to be transmitted next year on BBC Three. The first three-part run was screened in March this year and attracted rave reviews and promising audience numbers. Mitchell’s series is set in the aftermath of a zombie uprising and details the dramatic consequences of a Government programme which sees medicated ‘zombies’ - known as partially-deceased syndrome sufferers  - reintegrated back into their community despite the mistrust and suspicion amongst not only their own families but those around them. The original series starred Luke Newberry as PDS sufferer Keiren Walker and the cast also included Steve Evets, Kenneth Cranham and Ricky Tomlinson. Viewers will remember that despite telling a self-contained story, In The Flesh left open several intriguing story threads which presumably will be explored in the forthcoming second series which will begin filming later this year. No word yet on new or returning cast but Starburst will report on developments in the new series as soon as they’re announced.
