TV News

After last week’s news regarding NIGHTBREED possibly headed to TV, word is that Clive Barker’s other best known property HELLRAISER is now also in development as a TV series.

Sonar Entertainment is developing this for a series along with some of the people who were involved in the first two films before it went and got all silly and headed to the direct to video ghetto where it now dwells. Eric Gardner is producing along with Larry Kuppin whose company New World Entertainment released the first two films.

If you don’t know, HELLRAISER revolves around the ‘Lament Configuration’ puzzle box which releases some distinctly S&M fond demons from another dimension. Their leader Pinhead (played so memorably by Doug Bradley) then tempts people with their deepest darkest desires so he can tear their soul apart.

The series isn’t in production yet so there isn’t a brave network attached. The first three HELLRAISER films are cool and nasty little slices of horror. By the fourth it’s all gone wrong as the franchise heads into outer space. The fifth went direct to DVD and the other four I don’t think ever got a proper UK release although I could be wrong. There was talk of a remake a while back with Pascal Laugier (MARTYRS) attached to direct but it’s all gone quiet that end. How this will translate to TV is anyone’s guess as the films are ‘graphic’ to say the least.
