With Hulu currently developing a series based around Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Locke & Key, now comes an update on who will direct the show.

Previously, it was widely reported that Sinister and Doctor Strange’s Scott Derrickson was attached to direct the series, but now comes word from Deadline that he’s had to step away from the project due to his commitments to TNT’s upcoming Snowpiercer series. Coming in to replace Derrickson on Locke & Key, though, is Andy Muschietti – the director of Mama and the new adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. Still on board as showrunner and executive producer is Lost and The Strain’s Carlton Cuse.

The early word on Locke & Key reads:

The project revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.

Initially, the rights for Locke & Key were picked up by Dimension Films back in 2008, and then 2010 saw FOX develop a TV series. Sadly, neither of these times saw anything fully come to be where an adaptation was concerned, but now it finally looks as if we’ll be getting to see Locke & Key brought to life on the small screen.
