One of the most tightly-guarded mysteries surrounding next month’s Spider-Man: Homecoming centres on the identity of Zendaya’s character.

To date, all we know for certain on this character is that she’s named Michelle and will be a potential love interest for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. The early speculation saw many thinking that “Michelle” may actually end up being Mary Jane Watson, whilst others thought that the character could be a young version of Michelle Rodriguez – a police officer who an older Peter had a relationship with in the comic book realm. Now, though, it seems as if the cat is finally out of the bag.

As reported by MoviePilot, Zendaya’s Michelle is actually the daughter of Michael Keaton’s ‘big bad’, Adrian Toomes. With the junior novelization of the movie now in the clutches of certain lucky fans, Michelle’s full name has been revealed to be Michelle Toomes – the daughter of Keaton’s Vulture. This would certainly give good reason as to why Michelle has been the only character to not be given a surname in all press info for the film.

What’s most intriguing about this is that it adds to the personal nature of Peter’s fight with Keaton’s character. While as Spidey he’ll be fighting the good fight against Vulture, as plain ol’ Peter Parker he’ll be trying to maintain a friendship/romantic relationship with the rogue’s daughter.

Previously, it’s been reported that Keaton’s Toomes will be someone simply trying to make ends meet in order to support his family. Things take a turn for the worst for the rogue when his job cleaning up the mess left behind by the MCU’s superheroes and villains is jeopardized thanks to Tony Stark’s new ‘Damage Control’ team. As such, Toomes uses some alien technology left over from Avengers Assemble’s Battle of New York to have his Vulture suit crafted for him by The Tinkerer. From there, Vulture catches the eye of our beloved Wall-crawler.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings to UK cinemas on July 7th.
