And that was seemingly sadly that…

Yes, after much speculation and rejigs, TNT’s planned relaunch of Tales From the Crypt has finally been cancelled.

The network had planned a horror-exclusive block of programming, which was to be fronted by an M. Night Shyamalan-developed new take on Tales From the Crypt. Late last year saw things held up over rights issues, and now TNT president Kevin Reilly has confirmed that the network is moving on from the reboot, instead focussing their attention on Ridley Scott’s new anthology series.

As Reilly told Deadline, “That one got really caught up in a complete legal mess unfortunately with a very complicated underlying rights structure. We lost so much time, so I said, ‘Look, I’m not waiting around four years for this thing’. Maybe that will come back around, but in the meantime Ridley Scott had come up, who has so much creative enthusiasm.”

The original plan called for TNT to develop a black of horror programming based around Tales From the Crypt, Time of Death, Creatures and several other short and long-form horror projects. More recent news saw it announced that Scott was developing some original sci-fi content for the network, with that seemingly now taking priority.
