Time's Up for TIME AFTER TIME

America’s ABC Network has pulled the plug on its time-travel adventure series Time After Time after five episodes aired to somewhat less than stellar audience ratings.

Based on the novel by Karl Alexander and first brought to the screen in 1979 in Nicholas Meyer’s feature film version starring Malcolm McDowell and David Warner, the series sees HG Wells (Freddie Stroma) travel to 21st century New York in pursuit of his friend John Stevenson (Josh Bowman) who has been responsible for a reign of terror in Victorian London as Jack the Ripper. The series, written and produced by Kevin Williamson, was pretty much dead on arrival when it launched on ABC last month and its ratings have averaged around 2.2 million.

Twelve episodes of the series have been produced but there appear to be no immediate plans for the rest of the run to be ‘burnt off’ in another non prime-time slot. Time After Time has yet to find a home on any UK channel and today’s news suggests that it’s now unlikely that it ever will.
