THE CRYSTAL MAZE Returning

To many of us, the theme tune to The Crystal Maze gets stuck in our heads far too often to this very day. Well, it now appears as if a new version of the show is being geared up to make its way to the small screen in the future. Sadly, though, it appears that this is a one-off… for now, at least.

Channel 4 will be doing a special edition of The Crystal Maze as part of the Stand Up To Cancer fundraising initiative which encourages viewers to donate some pennies to Cancer Research UK. The one-off episode will air in October, with a brief Channel 4 statement simply reading, “Channel 4 is looking at a special Crystal Maze for Stand Up To Cancer.”

On who will be hosting this episode, certain outlets are reporting that David Tennant be following in the footsteps of Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole. Whilst that would be an inspired choice, it seems as if these reports are false and that we’re still in the dark on who Channel 4 has in mind to headline the one-off special.

The Crystal Maze first aired between 1990 and 1995, with the iconic Richard O’Brien the man first tasked with overseeing the action as contestants competed in various games across four themed zones in a tad-bonkers maze. The aim was to win said games, collecting crystals in the process, and then using said crystals to obtain more time in the famed Crystal Dome in which the contestants had to grab as many gold, silver and bronze tickets as possible. In 1993, Ed Tudor-Pole took over the mantle of host from O’Brien, although the show suffered at the loss of O’Brien’s charm.
