Ok, so it seems we were ‘slightly’ off on this... News has come in that the Jane Espenson penned, Eliza Dushku starring TORCHWOOD spin-off WEB OF LIES will actually be 'animated', not live-action.

Still pretty cool though, no?

Expect the first of this 10-episode mini-series to debut on the internets before the July release of the MIRACLE DAY premiere, then after each subsequent episode.

Read on for our previous story (but ignore the bit about Dushku showing up in MIRACLE DAY itself. I was talking sh*t.)

BUFFY/ANGEL star Eliza Dusku is to feature in the new BBC/Starz co-production of TORCHWOOD series 4. Well, at least its web-series spin-off anyway…

Writer Jane Espenson dropped cryptic casting clues regarding the news in a recent Tweet:

“We have faith in Torchwood: Web of Lies. …It’s tru; there’s an echo of my past work in Torchwood: Web of Lies.”

Hardly the Da Vinci Code is it! “Faith”, “Tru”, “Echo” all refer to the characters The Dush played in BUFFY, TRU CALLING, and DOLLHOUSE. Even the sentence “echo of my past work” refers to the fact Ms Espenson has worked with the actress many times in the past.

Espenson’s contributions to our beloved genre run far and wide, encompassing BUFFY, ANGEL, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, CAPRICA, to name a few.

With such a creative powerhouse on board, it’s safe to say this new incarnation of TORCHWOOD is in very go od hands.

The 10 part series is entitled TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY, and as Espenson noted in her message, the spin-off goes by TORCHWOOD: WEB OF LIES. Expect an official announcement on Eliza’s casting very shortly. We doubt she’ll be restricted to the web series ourselves – it’s a good bet her character will appear in MIRACLE DAY at some stage. It’s hard to believe an actress of her caliber would sign up for a series of webisodes quiet honestly.

And here's the MIRACLE DAY trailer for your viewing pleasure...

Looks pretty good. I'm hesitant to comment until I've seen it, though. Still not quite sure about the move to the states. =/

Very glad to be seeing Dusku back on our screens. Must remember to watch this one, after two failed attempts with Dollhouse. Loved Tru calling, though I seemed to have lost track a little after that.

Hope at this one makes a impact and stays the course. We have enough crap on our screens, I could do with a break. And what with Gellar returning to the screens soon with her new show, it seems like an interesting line up head. Yay!
