THE MIST Creeping onto TV

Frank Darabont’s 2007 film adaptation of Stephen King’s novella The Mist has, perhaps, the most shocking, nihilistic ending ever committed to celluloid. It was an ending that Darabont created and King, to his credit, went along with it, which imbued the film with a heartbreaking poignancy. It is also a King adaptation that is damn near perfect so it comes as some surprise that US cable channel Spike has ordered a 10-episode series from the Weinstein Company.

"We have been fortunate to produce and distribute two of Stephen King's films, 1408 and The Mist, and are pleased to continue that relationship by making The Mist into a TV series," Bob Weinstein said in a statement. "We've had an incredible experience developing the series with Christian, [Spike's] Sharon [Levy] and her team and are eager to make this series a signature show for Spike."

As the original film is largely set in a supermarket, where the towns inhabitants seek refuge from a preternatural mist and the things concealed within it, it will be interesting to see how the story unfolds during its ten-episode run. And just which ending will it have? The novella’s or film’s? Find out when The Mist airs in 2017.
