Any and all superheroes seem to be fair game for a debut or redo these days, and today brings word that The Tick is heading back to the small screen.

Deadline is reporting that a new Tick series is being worked on by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television, with the new show to be exclusive to Amazon. And so far along in development is this new series, the show already has some cast members in place.

First up, Vinyl’s Griffin Newman is to play accountant-cum-moth-hero Arthur Everest, whilst House of Lies’ Valorie Curry is signed on to play Arthur’s sister, Dot. And while Patrick Warburton won’t be reprising his role as The Tick, he’ll be on board to executive produce along with Ben Edlund and Barry Josephson. It was Edlund who actually created The Tick way back in 1986.

The hero began life as merely a mascot for New England Comics before he was given his own comic book series in 1988. An animated series began in 1994 and ran for two seasons, and The Tick was even turned into a live-action series in 2001. That show would sadly be cancelled after only nine episodes.

Further casting news is expected shortly on this new series, and Transcendence’s Wally Pfister will be helming the pilot episode.
