Leon, The Fifth Element, and Lucy director Luc Besson has struck a deal to co-write, co-create and executive produce a series called Artificial Intelligence for TNT and EuroCorp TV USA.

The writer/producer/director will start work on this show once he gets finished with his current feature, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Bill Wheeler, who’s currently working on the Scarlett Johansson-starring Ghost in the Shell, will also serve as a producer alongside Besson on this new series. At this stage, it’s additionally being reported that Besson may actual helm the pilot episode himself, although that’s not confirmed yet.

The official word on Artificial Intelligence reads:

In AI, an artificial intelligence entity escapes its laboratory confinement and begins a methodical quest to carry out mysterious plans. The creator of the AI assembles a team of specialists to discern its objective, while simultaneously working to counter its rapid manouvers and warn the world of imminent dangers.

As ever, expect more on this new show as it develops.
