After plenty of speculation, Marvel have finally found their Iron Fist!

As first reported by That Hashtag Show, and then confirmed by EW, it’s been revealed that Finn Jones will be playing Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. Jones is likely best known for his work on Game of Thrones and the brilliant The Last Showing.

When it was announced that Marvel had put together an agreement with Netflix, the plan was to do four shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. After that, the four titular heroes would come together for The Defenders. Now Daredevil’s second season is set to arrive on Netflix next month, Jessica Jones has been confirmed for a second season, and Mike Colter's Luke Cage made a successful debut last year in Jessica Jones ahead of his own series. But all remained eerily quiet on the Danny Rand front.

At one point, it was believed that the powers-that-be were getting cold feet and debating pulling the plug on Iron Fist due to being unsure about how to handle the magical elements of the character when they’ve already created a relatively-grounded realm in the Marvel/Netflix world, which itself ties into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then there were those rumours of Ryan Phillippe being lined up as Iron Fist, although Finn Jones has now been given the nod.

The character of Danny Rand debuted in 1974’s Marvel Premiere #15, created by Roy Thomas, Gil Kane and Bill Everett. As well as being a master martial artist, Rand possesses the magical power of the Iron Fist. Oh, and he’s also minted as a result of being the heir to the Rand Corporation, and he uses his wealth to try and help some of NYC’s poverty-stricken residents. In addition to this, he’s also BFFs with Luke Cage, with the pair often teaming up.

Dexter’s Scott Buck will serve as showrunner on Marvel’s Iron Fist, and the show is expected to land on Netflix next year. Before that we’ve got Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil arriving in March, with Marvel’s Luke Cage set for the second half of 2016.
