Phew! With rumours swirling that Marvel’s Netflix-exclusive Iron Fist show may not actually happen, the series has taken a massive step in the right direction by announcing a showrunner.

It’s been officially revealed that Scott Buck has signed on as the showrunner and executive producer of Marvel’s Iron Fist. Buck is likely best known for his work on the likes of Six Feet Under, Rome, and for serving as showrunner on the final four seasons of Dexter.

On this news, Marvel’s Jeph Loeb said, “Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet. We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

Buck himself added, “I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and Iron Fist to life with Marvel on Netflix.”

Premise-wise, Iron Fist will feature Danny Rand returning to New York City after being AWOL for years. With his kung-fu skills and the power of the Iron Fist, Rand battles the dastardly and dirty criminal element that is taking over NYC.

With Daredevil and Jessica Jones now available on Netflix, the next Marvel series to arrive is Luke Cage, which debuts next year. Following that will be Marvel’s Iron Fist, with all four titular heroes then coming together in the aforementioned Defenders mini-series.

Now that Iron Fist has a showrunner in place, maybe that means we’ll soon find out who will be playing Danny Rand in the show. The last rumour we’d heard on that front was that Ryan Phillippe was someone who’d had talks for the Rand gig, although that was a fair few months ago and could mean nothing at this point.

As ever, expect more on Marvel’s Iron Fist as it develops.
