GAME OF THRONES To Run For At Least Eight Seasons

All good things come to an end at some point, and it looks as if we’ve got an idea of how much life is left in the Game of Thrones TV series.

Details have emerged from HBO’s Television Critics Association presentation, courtesy of EW, and it looks as if Game of Thrones is going to run until at least an eighth season.

At the gathering, HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo said, “Seven seasons and out has never been the conversation. The questions is, ‘How much beyond seven are we going to do?’ Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. [Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”

On the possibilities of exploring a long-rumoured prequel series, Lombardo added, “There’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel if George [R.R. Martin] and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.”

Of course, a lot of the Game of Thrones TV show depends on how things pan out with work on future novels, although the show itself has not been afraid to take things in a different direction than the written works at certain times.

Game of Thrones is due to return for a sixth season next year.
