Yesterday brought word that Jay Garrick was to appear in Season 2 of The Flash, but now there’s some official casting news on who will be playing Jay in the Scarlet Speedster-centric show.

Garrick is a big favourite of comic book fans, with the character known as being the first person to take on the mantle of The Flash. Playing him will be Masters of Sex and Raising the Bar’s Teddy Sears. We briefly saw the helmet of Jay Garrick in the Season 1 finale of The Flash, and it’s been revealed that the character will turn up in Starling City to warn Barry Allen and the S.T.A.R. Labs team of an impending threat that is more than Barry can handle. On the casting addition, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “Having Jay Garrick come into the show was one of our earliest ideas. It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

And in additional casting news, Shantel VanSanten has been brought in to play Patty Spivot. VanSanten will be familiar to genre fans for her roles in The Messengers and The Final Destination, and the character of Patty is a relatively new one in the comic book world; one who is a police officer with a keen interest in science. In the show she’ll be a potential love interest of Barry’s and will also become the new partner of Detective West. Oh, and she just so happens to be obsessed with the idea of metahumans. Andrew Kreisberg has again commented, saying, “We were huge fans of The Messengers and are excited to have Shantel join us to help complicate Barry Allen’s love life in season two.”

So there we have it: another Flash on the way, plus a new love interest for Barry.

The Flash returns to US screens on October 6th, with a UK return expected to follow shortly after.
